Turtle

My dad found a Snapping Turtle this morning in the street. The scientific name for this turtle is Chelydra Serpentine. It belongs to the Snapping Turtle family with only one other member the Alligator Snapping Turtle. Young snapping turtles eat snails, leeches, water plants, small plants, and insects. Adult turtles eat frogs, fish, small turtles, newts, tad poles, toads, crayfish, snakes, small mammals, and small birds such as water fowl. Snapping turtles are very very strong. They have bear like claws and a dinosaur like tail. Snapping turtles can weigh up to fifty pounds and live up to fifty years. Snappers are very good hunters and seem to never stop being hungry. Snapping turtles have very strong legs which makes them great swimmers but they do not do much swimming. Snappers prefer muddy bottoms of ponds driftwood and tons of water plants. When bothered a snapping turtle will try to bite the intruder. They are able to reach two thirds behind its back.
